Rhynabaich

This is one of the most ancient Christian sites on Deeside. All that is left, as is shown in the photograph is a slightly flattened area just to the north of the main Aberdeen-Braemar road {NO 301962}. The single stone left standing is thought to be part of the original doorway to the church.

Site of Church

At this spot St Manire founded his church at the start of the ninth-century from whence he laboured amongst the Picts in upper Deeside. St Manire had another church at Crathie, near Balmoral and he is believed to be buried in this latter church.

Close-up of the "standing-stone": the only recognisable remains of the ancient muinntir.
