In 1226, Bishop Andrew de Moravia erected Croy into a prebend of the new Cathedral foundation at Elgin. The Vicar of "Croy & Lunyn" was to act as the Bishop's vicar in the Cathedral.

The site of the original Parish Church is said to be 'lost'. Croy and Dalcross parishes are said, by some, to have been united in the 15th century whilst other authors say this took place about the time of the Reformation.

All in all, comparatively little seems to be known about the ancient church of Croy.
